Jones County is one of the 99 county of Iowa, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. Jones County had an official population of 20221 in 2000. In July 2008, its estimated population was 20346, It is the 32nd largest county by population in the U.S. state of Iowa. It covers total area of 576.7 square miles (1493.65 sq km), of which, 575.31 square miles (1490.05 sq km) of it is land and 1.39 square miles (3.6 sq km) of it is water, it is the 40th largest by area in the U.S. state of Iowa.

As of the census of 2000, there were 20221 residents, 7560 households, and 5301 families in the county. The population density was 35.1 people per square mile (13.55/kmē), making it the 34th most densely populated county in Iowa. There were 8126 housing units at an average density of 14.1 per square mile (5.44/kmē). The average household size was 2.47 persons, and the average family size was 2.95 persons. In the county Age distribution was 24.1% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 29% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 109.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 111.6 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 20346, The racial makeup of the county was 19643 White, 442 Black or African American, 67 American Indian, 48 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 146 from two or more races.
