Johnstown City is a city located in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. The population of city in 2000 stood at 23906 as per the Census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 21641, making it the 33rd most populous in Pennsylvania. The city encompasses an area of 6.08 mi˛ (15.75 sq km ), of which, 5.83 square miles (15.1 sq km) of it is land and 0.25 square miles (0.65 sq km) of it is water, it is the 81st largest in terms of geographical size.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 23906 people, 11134 households, and 6049 families residing in the city. The population density was 4097 people per square mile (1581.86/km˛), making it the 228th most densely populated city in Pennsylvania. There were 12802 housing units at an average density of 2195.9 per square mile (847.84/km˛). The average household size was 2.11 and the average family size was 2.87. Age range in the city was well distributed with 21.3% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 23% from 45 to 64, and 22.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 84.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.2 males. The median age of the city's population was 41.5 years, the median age of male residents at 38.7 and the median age of female residents at 44.3. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 20627 White, 2561 Black or African American, 31 American Indian, 68 Asian, 12 Native Hawaiian, 460 from two or more races and 147 Ohter races.
