Johnston County, North Carolina is a county of the United States of North Carolina. In 2000, the population was 121965. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 163428, It is 13th most populous county in North Carolina. Its area is just over 795.79 sq mi (2061.09 sq km), of which, 791.85 square miles (2050.88 sq km) of it is land and 3.94 square miles (10.2 sq km) of it is water, it is the 14th largest by area in the U.S. state of North Carolina.

Its population was estimated at 163428 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 134290 White, 25635 Black or African American, 771 American Indian, 1162 Asian, 103 Native Hawaiian, and 1467 from two or more races.
