According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Johnson County is home to 7075 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 8464, It is the 16th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Wyoming. The county encompasses an area of 4174.71 mi˛ (10812.45 sq km ), of which, 4166.28 square miles (10790.62 sq km) of it is land and 8.42 square miles (21.81 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 11th largest by total area in Wyoming.
