Johnson County is a county located in Tennessee, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 17499 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 18112, It is the 26th least populous county in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It has total area of 302.73 square miles (784.07 square kilometre), of which, 298.47 square miles (773.03 square kilometre) of it is land and 4.26 square miles (11.03 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 20th smallest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 17499 residents, 6827 households, and 4754 families in the county. The population density was 58.6 people per square mile (22.63/kmē), it would be the 53rd most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Tennessee. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 19.7% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 27.1% from 45 to 64, and 15% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 114.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 114.4 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 18112, The racial makeup of the county was 17380 White, 549 Black or African American, 66 American Indian, 23 Asian, 4 Native Hawaiian, and 90 from two or more races.
