According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Johnson County is home to 48258 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 52016, making it Missouri's 20th largest county. It covers total area of 833.03 sq mi (2157.54 kmē), of which, 830.44 square miles (2150.83 kmē) of it is land and 2.59 square miles (6.71 kmē) of it is water, giving it the ninth largest by total area among Missouri's county.
