Johnson County is a United States county located in the United States of Georgia. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 8560 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 9550, giving it the 29th smallest population among Georgia's county. It covers total area of 306.52 sq mi (793.88 sq km), of which, 304.26 square miles (788.03 sq km) of it is land and 2.26 square miles (5.85 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 98th largest by total area among Georgia's county.

The population density was 28.1 people per square mile (10.85/kmē), it would be the 33rd least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Georgia. There were 3634 housing units at an average density of 11.9 per square mile (4.59/kmē). The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.06. Age range in the county was well distributed with 30.1% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 24.3% from 25 to 44, 21.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.5 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 9550, The racial makeup of the county was 59.66% White, 39.7% Black or African American, 0.12% American Indian, 0.15% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.37% from two or more races.
