Jewett City Borough, Connecticut


Jewett City Borough is one of the borough of New London County, Connecticut, located towards the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. As per the 2000 census, borough has a population of 3053 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 2976, making it Connecticut's 69th largest. The borough extends throughout a territory of 0.75 square miles (1.94 kmē ), of which, 0.72 square miles (1.86 kmē) of it is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 kmē) of it is water, giving it the fifth smallest by total area among Connecticut.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 3053 residents, 1337 households, and 743 families in the borough. The population density was 4213.9 people per square mile (1627/kmē), making it the tenth most densely populated borough in Connecticut. There were 1464 housing units at an average density of 2033.3 per square mile (785.06/kmē). The average household size was 2.27 and the average family size was 2.92. The population's age distribution was 23.9% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 34.8% from 25 to 44, 18.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.5 males. The median age was 34.1 years, The median age of males was 32.9 years, for females the median age was 35 years. The racial or ethnic makeup of the borough was 92.07% White, 2.46% Black or African American, 0.88% American Indian, 1.44% Asian, 0.07% Native Hawaiian, 1.97% from two or more races and 1.11% Other races.
