Jersey City City, Hudson County, New Jersey is a city located in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 240055. The July 2008 population estimate is 241114, making it the second most populous in New Jersey. It has total area of 21.11 mi˛ (54.67 sq km), of which, 14.92 square miles (38.64 sq km) of it is land and 6.2 square miles (16.06 sq km) of it is water, it is the 12th largest by area in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in New Jersey.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 240055 residents, 457 households, and 284 families in the city. The population density was 16093.7 people per square mile (6213.81/km˛), it is the 11th most densely populated city in the U.S. state of New Jersey. There were 93648 housing units at an average density of 6276.7 per square mile (2423.45/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.67 persons, and the average family size was 3.37 persons. In the city the population was spread out, with 24.7% under the age of 18, 10.7% from 18 to 24, 35.1% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 104.9 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 107.9 females. The median age is 32.4 years, the median age of male residents at 31.4 and the median age of female residents at 33.5. The racial makeup of the city was 34.01% White, 28.32% Black or African American, 0.45% American Indian, 16.2% Asian, 0.08% Native Hawaiian, 5.84% from two or more races and 15.11% Other races.
