In July 2008, its estimated population was 12653, making it Mississippi's 18th smallest county. The county extends throughout a territory of 409.1 mi˛ (1059.56 sq km ), of which, 408.41 square miles (1057.78 sq km) of it is land and 0.7 square miles (1.81 sq km) of it is water, it is the sixth smallest in terms of geographical size.
