Jefferson County is a United States county located in the United States of Tennessee. It is home to over 44294 people (2000 census). As of July 2008, the estimated population was 51074, It is 29th most populous county in Tennessee. The county spans an area of 314.33 sq mi (814.11 kmē), of which, 273.81 square miles (709.16 kmē) of it is land and 40.51 square miles (104.92 kmē) of it is water, it is the 23rd smallest by area in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in Tennessee.

The population density was 161.8 people per square mile (62.47/kmē), it is 18th most densely populated county in Tennessee. For every 100 females there were 97.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94 males.
