Jefferson County is a county located in the United States of Pennsylvania. The population of the county was 45932 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 45105, It is 19th least populous county in Pennsylvania. The county extends throughout a territory of 656.87 mi˛ (1701.29 square kilometre ), of which, 655.48 square miles (1697.69 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.39 square miles (3.6 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 35th largest by total area in Pennsylvania.

As of the census of 2000, there were 45932 people in the county, organized into 18375 households, and 12861 families residing in the county. The population density was 70.1 people per square mile (27.07/km˛), it is the 18th least populated county in terms of population density. There were 22104 housing units at an average density of 33.7 per square mile (13.01/km˛). The average household size was 2.45 persons, and the average family size was 2.96 persons. In the county Age distribution was 23.6% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.6 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 45105, The racial makeup of the county was 44465 White, 147 Black or African American, 89 American Indian, 171 Asian, 5 Native Hawaiian, and 228 from two or more races.
