Jefferson County, Oregon is a county located in the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 19009 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 20512 in July 2008, making it the tenth least populous county in Oregon. The county comprises an area of 1791.17 sq mi (4639.11 square kilometre), of which, 1780.78 square miles (4612.2 square kilometre) of it is land and 10.38 square miles (26.88 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 21st largest by size in Oregon.

As of the census of 2000, there were 19009 people in the county, organized into 6727 households, and 5166 families living in the county. The population density was 10.7 people per square mile (4.13/kmē), giving it the 24th most densely populated county among the Oregon. There were 8319 housing units at an average density of 4.7 per square mile (1.81/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.8 persons, and the average family size was 3.16 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 29.8% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.8 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 20512, The racial makeup of the county was 79.37% White, 0.81% Black or African American, 16.39% American Indian, 0.5% Asian, 0.32% Native Hawaiian, and 2.61% from two or more races.
