Jefferson County is a one of the county from Georgia's 159 counties, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. Jefferson County had an official population of 17266 in 2000. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 16443, giving it the 101st largest population among Georgia's county. Its area is just over 529.56 miē (1371.55 kmē), of which, 527.65 square miles (1366.61 kmē) of it is land and 1.91 square miles (4.95 kmē) of it is water, it is the 22nd largest in terms of geographical size.

For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 118.4 females. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 16443, The racial makeup of the county was 44.13% White, 54.9% Black or African American, 0.13% American Indian, 0.3% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.53% from two or more races.
