Jefferson County is a county located in the United States of Florida. In 2000, county's population was 12902 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 14547, giving it the seventh smallest population among Florida's county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 636.65 square miles (1648.92 kmē), of which, 597.74 square miles (1548.14 kmē) of it is land and 38.91 square miles (100.78 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 17th smallest by total area among Florida's county.

As of the census of 2000, there were 12902 people in the county, organized into 4695 households, and 3307 families residing in the county. The population density was 21.6 people per square mile (8.34/kmē), it is Florida's seventh least densely populated county. There were 5251 housing units at an average density of 8.8 per square mile (3.4/kmē). The average household size was 2.53 people, and the average family size was 3.03 people. Age range in the county was well distributed with 22.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 104.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 14547, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 9246 White, 5036 Black or African American, 62 American Indian, 45 Asian, 9 Native Hawaiian, and 149 from two or more races.
