According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 533339, It is Colorado's fourth most populous county. It covers total area of 778.06 sq mi (2015.17 square kilometre), of which, 772.09 square miles (1999.7 square kilometre) of it is land and 5.97 square miles (15.46 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 14th smallest by total area among Colorado's county.

In the county Population was distributed with 25.3% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 32.1% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 9.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.8 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 533339, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 92.8% White, 1.62% Black or African American, 1.03% American Indian, 2.62% Asian, 0.14% Native Hawaiian, and 1.8% from two or more races.
