For every 100 females there were 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.4 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 78373, The racial makeup of the county was 44.36% White, 53.09% Black or African American, 0.4% American Indian, 1.11% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 0.98% from two or more races.
