According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 18253, It is the 54th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The county comprises an area of 677.44 mi˛ (1754.56 sq km), of which, 676 square miles (1750.83 sq km) of it is land and 1.44 square miles (3.73 sq km) of it is water, making it Mississippi's 27th largest county by total area.
