James City County is a independent city located in Virginia, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. It is home to over 48102 people (2000 census). As of July 2008, the estimated population of the independent city is 62414, It is the 29th largest independent city by population in the U.S. state of Virginia. The independent city extends throughout a territory of 179.71 sq mi (465.45 kmē ), of which, 142.92 square miles (370.16 kmē) of it is land and 36.79 square miles (95.29 kmē) of it is water, it is the 41st smallest by area in the U.S. state of Virginia.
