James City Cdp is a census designated place located in the Craven County, North Carolina, United States. In 2000, the population was 5420. making it the 114th most populous in North Carolina. Its area is just over 14.5 mi˛ (37.55 sq km), of which, 8.32 square miles (21.55 sq km) of it is land and 6.18 square miles (16.01 sq km) of it is water, it is the 57th largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in North Carolina.
