Jacksonville City is one of the city of Onslow County, North Carolina, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 66715 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 76233, It is the 11th largest by population in the U.S. state of North Carolina. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 45.16 sq mi (116.96 kmē), of which, 44.48 square miles (115.2 kmē) of it is land and 0.68 square miles (1.76 kmē) of it is water, making it North Carolina's tenth largest by total area.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 66715 people, 17175 households, and 13536 families living in the city. The population density was 1500 people per square mile (579.15/kmē), making its North Carolina's 69th most densely populated city. There were 18312 housing units at an average density of 411.7 per square mile (158.96/kmē). The average household size was 2.83 and the average family size was 3.18. In the city the population is diverse age-wise, with 24.3% under the age of 18, 36.3% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 8.8% from 45 to 64, and 4.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 156.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 178.6 males. The median age is 22.4 years, The median age of males was 22 years, for females the median age was 24.7 years. The racial makeup of the city was 63.94% White, 23.96% Black or African American, 0.75% American Indian, 2.07% Asian, 0.19% Native Hawaiian, 3.67% from two or more races and 5.42% Other races.
