Jackson County is a United States county located in the United States of Kentucky. As of 2000 the population was 13495. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 13645, It is 37th least populous county in Kentucky. The county comprises an area of 346.57 square miles (897.61 square kilometre), of which, 346.33 square miles (896.99 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.24 square miles (0.62 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 51st largest by total area among Kentucky's county.

The population density was 39 people per square mile (15.06/kmē), making its Kentucky's 33rd least densely populated county. There were 6065 housing units at an average density of 17.5 per square mile (6.76/kmē). The average household size was 2.52 people, and the average family size was 2.96 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 26.1% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 29.4% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 11.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 102.8 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 105 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 13645, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 13511 White, 24 Black or African American, 26 American Indian, 2 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 81 from two or more races.
