Jackson County is a county located in the United States of Kansas. The population of the county was 12657 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 13240, making it the 36th most populous county in Kansas. The county spans an area of 657.86 square miles (1703.85 kmē), of which, 655.59 square miles (1697.97 kmē) of it is land and 2.27 square miles (5.88 kmē) of it is water, it is the 34th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Kansas.

In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 28.3% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.8 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 13240, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 11863 White, 149 Black or African American, 901 American Indian, 44 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 280 from two or more races.
