As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 49656, It is the 42nd largest in terms of population. The county comprises an area of 954.58 miē (2472.35 kmē), of which, 915.64 square miles (2371.5 kmē) of it is land and 38.94 square miles (100.85 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 26th largest by total area among Florida's county.
