Jackson City is a United States city located in the Hinds, Madison and Rankin counties, Mississippi, United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 184256 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 173861, It is most populous in Mississippi. The city comprises an area of 106.82 square miles (276.66 sq km), of which, 104.9 square miles (271.69 sq km) of it is land and 1.92 square miles (4.97 sq km) of it is water, it is the largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks eighth in the size of its inland waterways in Mississippi.

As of the census of 2000, there were 184256 people, 67841 households, and 44488 families living in the city. The population density was 1756.4 people per square mile (678.15/kmē), it is the 22nd most populated city in terms of population density.
