Izard County, Arkansas is a county located in the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 13249 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 12992, giving it the 21st smallest population among Arkansas's county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 584.02 sq mi (1512.6 sq km), of which, 580.68 square miles (1503.95 sq km) of it is land and 3.34 square miles (8.65 sq km) of it is water, it is the ninth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Arkansas.

As of the census of 2000, there were 13249 people in the county, organized into 5440 households, and 3772 families living in the county. The population density was 22.8 people per square mile (8.8/kmē), it is Arkansas's 24th least densely populated county. There were 6591 housing units at an average density of 11.4 per square mile (4.4/kmē). The average household size was 2.3 and the average family size was 2.78. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 20.9% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 25% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 21.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.9 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 12992, The racial makeup of the county was 12480 White, 243 Black or African American, 97 American Indian, 17 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 152 from two or more races.
