Ithaca City is a city located in the Tompkins County, New York, United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 29287 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 29763, giving it the 42nd largest population among New York. The city spans an area of 6.07 sq mi (15.72 sq km), of which, 5.46 square miles (14.14 sq km) of it is land and 0.61 square miles (1.58 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 140th largest by total area in New York.

As of the census of 2000, there were 29287 people, 10287 households, and 2958 families living in the city. The population density was 5360.9 people per square mile (2069.86/kmē), it is New York's 116th most densely populated city.
