Issaquena County is a United States county located in the United States of Mississippi. It is home to over 2274 people (2000 census). Its population was estimated at 1658 in July 2008, It is the smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The county spans an area of 441.36 square miles (1143.12 sq km), of which, 413.06 square miles (1069.82 sq km) of it is land and 28.3 square miles (73.3 sq km) of it is water, making it the 18th smallest by size in Mississippi. It is ranks tenth in the size of its inland waterways in Mississippi.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 2274 people, 726 households, and 510 families living in the county. The population density was 5.5 people per square mile (2.12/kmē), it is the least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Mississippi. There were 877 housing units at an average density of 2.1 per square mile (0.81/kmē). The average household size was 2.77 people, and the average family size was 3.37 people. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 27.7% under the age of 18, 10.9% from 18 to 24, 30.9% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 10.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 113.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 130.1 males. Its population was estimated at 1658 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the county was 672 White, 973 Black or African American, 2 American Indian, 0 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 11 from two or more races.
