Island County, Washington is a county located in the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. The county has a population of 71558 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 81424, making it the 14th most populous county in Washington. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 517.39 square miles (1340.03 square kilometre), of which, 208.43 square miles (539.83 square kilometre) of it is land and 308.95 square miles (800.18 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the second smallest by size in Washington. It is ranks fifth in the size of its inland waterways in Washington.

As of the census of 2000, there were 71558 people in the county, organized into 27784 households, and 20241 families residing in the county. The population density was 343.3 people per square mile (132.55/kmē), it is fifth most densely populated county in Washington. There were 32378 housing units at an average density of 155.3 per square mile (59.96/kmē). The average household size was 2.52 people, and the average family size was 2.93 people. In the county Age distribution was 25.5% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 28% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 99.6 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 102.1 females. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 81424, The racial makeup of the county was 73083 White, 1805 Black or African American, 786 American Indian, 3172 Asian, 345 Native Hawaiian, and 2233 from two or more races.
