Irwin County is a one of the county from Georgia's 159 counties, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. Irwin County had an official population of 9931 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 10231, It is the 32nd smallest in terms of population. The county spans an area of 362.73 sq mi (939.47 sq km), of which, 356.81 square miles (924.13 sq km) of it is land and 5.92 square miles (15.33 sq km) of it is water, making it Georgia's 73rd largest county by total area.


As of the census of 2000, there were 9931 people in the county, organized into 3644 households, and 2698 families living in the county. The population density was 27.8 people per square mile (10.73/kmē), giving it the 32nd least densely populated county among the Georgia. There were 4149 housing units at an average density of 11.6 per square mile (4.48/kmē). The average household size was 2.62 people, and the average family size was 3.07 people. In the county Age distribution was 28.8% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 103.5 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 112.2 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 10231, The racial makeup of the county was 71.35% White, 27.38% Black or African American, 0.16% American Indian, 0.63% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.48% from two or more races.
