Iron River City is a city located in Iron County, Michigan, in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 1929 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the city is 3003, It is 325th most populous in Michigan. It has total area of 3.49 sq mi (9.04 sq km), of which, 3.47 square miles (8.99 sq km) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 sq km) of it is water, making it Michigan's 216th largest by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1929 residents, 876 households, and 487 families in the city. The population density was 555.7 people per square mile (214.56/kmē), it is Michigan's 128th least densely populated city. There were 988 housing units at an average density of 284.7 per square mile (109.92/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.09 persons, and the average family size was 2.8 persons. In the city the population is diverse age-wise, with 21.3% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 20.8% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 30% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 81.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.2 males. The median age of the city's population was 46.6 years, the median age of male residents at 44.1 and the median age of female residents at 48.7. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 95.33% White, 0.16% Black or African American, 1.92% American Indian, 0.21% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, 2.33% from two or more races and 0.05% Other races.
