Iron County is a one of the county from Missouri's 115 counties and independent city, located in Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. Iron County had an official population of 10697 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 9918, It is Missouri's 28th least populous county. The county has a total area of 552.05 sq mi (1429.8 kmē), of which, 551.34 square miles (1427.96 kmē) of it is land and 0.71 square miles (1.84 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 66th largest by total area among Missouri's county.

The population density was 19.4 people per square mile (7.49/kmē), it is the 28th least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Missouri. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 25% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 24.8% from 45 to 64, and 17.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.8 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 9918, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 95.77% White, 2.28% Black or African American, 0.4% American Indian, 0.11% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 1.43% from two or more races.
