Iredell County is one of the 100 county of North Carolina, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 122660. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 155359, making it the 17th most populous county in North Carolina. It covers total area of 597.01 square miles (1546.25 sq km), of which, 575.57 square miles (1490.72 sq km) of it is land and 21.44 square miles (55.53 sq km) of it is water, it is the 29th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 122660 people, 47360 households, and 34658 families residing in the county. The population density was 213.1 people per square mile (82.28/kmē), making it the 18th most densely populated county in North Carolina. There were 51918 housing units at an average density of 90.2 per square mile (34.83/kmē). The average household size was 2.56 persons, and the average family size was 3 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.5% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 31.3% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.1 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 155359, The racial makeup of the county was 84.88% White, 12.27% Black or African American, 0.29% American Indian, 1.56% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 0.98% from two or more races.
