Ingham County, Michigan is a county located in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 279320. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 277528, making it the seventh most populous county in Michigan. The county has a total area of 560.94 sq mi (1452.83 kmē), of which, 559.19 square miles (1448.3 kmē) of it is land and 1.75 square miles (4.53 kmē) of it is water, it is the eighth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Michigan.

The population density was 499.5 people per square mile (192.86/kmē), it is the sixth most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Michigan. There were 115056 housing units at an average density of 205.8 per square mile (79.46/kmē). The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 3.04. In the county Age distribution was 23.4% under the age of 18, 18.5% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 9.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.1 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 277528, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 226584 White, 29944 Black or African American, 1732 American Indian, 12207 Asian, 187 Native Hawaiian, and 6874 from two or more races.
