Indianola City is a city located in Sunflower County, Mississippi, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Indianola City is home to 12066 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 10805, It is the 34th most populous in the U.S. state of Mississippi. Its area is just over 8.7 mi˛ (22.53 sq km), of which, 8.62 square miles (22.33 sq km) of it is land and 0.09 square miles (0.23 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 71st largest by total area in Mississippi.

As of the census of 2000, there were 12066 people in the city, organized into 3899 households, and 2982 families residing in the city. The population density was 1400.3 people per square mile (540.66/km˛), giving it the 42nd most densely populated city among the Mississippi. There were 4118 housing units at an average density of 477.7 per square mile (184.44/km˛). The average household size was 3.05 people, and the average family size was 3.53 people. In the city the population was spread out, with 32.9% under the age of 18, 11.5% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 18.4% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 83 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 75.3 males. The median age was 29.6 years, the median age of male residents at 26.6 and the median age of female residents at 31.6. The racial makeup of the city was 3105 White, 8854 Black or African American, 1 American Indian, 55 Asian, Native Hawaiian, 32 from two or more races and 19 Ohter races.
