Indian River County is one of the 67 county of Florida, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 112947 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 132315, making it the 33rd most populous county in Florida. Its area is just over 616.92 mi˛ (1597.82 square kilometre), of which, 503.23 square miles (1303.36 square kilometre) of it is land and 113.69 square miles (294.46 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 16th smallest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 112947 residents, 49137 households, and 32708 families in the county. The population density was 224.4 people per square mile (86.64/km˛), it is 23rd most densely populated county in Florida. There were 57902 housing units at an average density of 115.1 per square mile (44.44/km˛). The average household size was 2.25 persons, and the average family size was 2.72 persons. In the county Age distribution was 19.2% under the age of 18, 6% from 18 to 24, 22.3% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 29.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.8 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 132315, The racial makeup of the county was 117372 White, 11837 Black or African American, 384 American Indian, 1412 Asian, 35 Native Hawaiian, and 1275 from two or more races.

In 2000, 22308 pupils and students, of which 50.04% are male and 49.96% are female, 19.75% of the total population, are in the education system. Of which, percentage of enrollment student are in, 6.95% nursery or pri school, 4.81% kindergarten, 47.2% elementary school, 24.3% high school and 16.73% College graduate school.
