The census designated place has a total area of 20.33 sq mi (52.65 sq km), of which, 12.84 square miles (33.26 sq km) of it is land and 7.49 square miles (19.4 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 37th largest by total area among Michigan. It is ranks seventh in the size of its inland waterways in Michigan.
