Independence City is a United States city located in the Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. In 2000, city's population was 3236 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 3546, It is the 172nd most populous in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The city has a total area of 34.59 miē (89.59 kmē), of which, 32.58 square miles (84.38 kmē) of it is land and 2 square miles (5.18 kmē) of it is water, making it Minnesota's 33rd largest by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3236 people in the city, organized into 1088 households, and 909 families residing in the city.
