Independence City is a city located in Kenton County, Kentucky, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 14982. Its population was estimated at 21694 in July 2008, It is 32nd most populous in Kentucky. The city comprises an area of 16.78 square miles (43.46 sq km), of which, 16.77 square miles (43.43 sq km) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 sq km) of it is water, making it the 13th largest by size in Kentucky.

As of the census of 2000, there were 14982 people, 5181 households, and 4148 families living in the city. The population density was 893.2 people per square mile (344.87/kmē), it is 285th most densely populated city in Kentucky.
