The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 163972, It is California's 31st most populous county. It is spread over 4481.73 sq mi (11607.63 square kilometre), of which, 4174.73 square miles (10812.5 square kilometre ) of it is land and 307 square miles (795.13 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 11th largest by size in California. It is ranks tenth in the size of its inland waterways in California.
