The median age is 34.7 years, The median age of males was 33.3 years, for females the median age was 36 years. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 12419293, The racial or ethnic makeup of the state was 9125471 White, 1876875 Black or African American, 31006 American Indian, 423603 Asian, 4610 Native Hawaiian, 235016 from two or more races and 722712 Ohter races.

In 2000, 3450604 pupils and students, of which 49.84% are male and 50.16% are female, 27.78% of the total population, are in the education system. Of which, percentage of enrollment student are in, 7.34% nursery or pri school, 5.5% kindergarten, 43.19% elementary school, 20.5% high school and 23.48% College graduate school.
