Ida County is a county located in the United States of Iowa. It is home to over 7837 people (2000 census). The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 6862, making it the seventh least populous county in Iowa. It is spread over 432.23 square miles (1119.47 sq km), of which, 431.71 square miles (1118.12 sq km ) of it is land and 0.52 square miles (1.35 sq km) of it is water, it is the 12th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Iowa.

The population density was 18.2 people per square mile (7.03/kmē), it is the 16th least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Iowa. There were 3506 housing units at an average density of 8.1 per square mile (3.13/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.39 persons, and the average family size was 2.95 persons. In the Ida County, 25.5% of the population was under the age of 18, 6.1% were 18 to 24, 24% were 25 to 44, 22.7% were 45 to 64, and 21.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.4 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 6862, The racial makeup of the county was 98.97% White, 0.12% Black or African American, 0.07% American Indian, 0.22% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 0.63% from two or more races.
