Iberia Parish is one of the 64 parish of Louisiana, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. The population of the parish was 73266 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 75097, It is the 17th largest parish by population in the U.S. state of Louisiana. It has total area of 1030.86 square miles (2669.92 sq km), of which, 575.13 square miles (1489.58 sq km) of it is land and 455.73 square miles (1180.34 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 14th largest by total area in Louisiana. It is ranks sixth in the size of its inland waterways in Louisiana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 73266 people in the parish, organized into 25381 households, and 19165 families living in the parish. The population density was 127.4 people per square mile (49.19/kmē), it would be the 14th most densely populated parish in the U.S. state of Louisiana. There were 27844 housing units at an average density of 48.4 per square mile (18.69/kmē). The average household size was 2.82 people, and the average family size was 3.28 people. Age range in the parish was well distributed with 30% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.8 males. Its population was estimated at 75097 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the parish was 48189 White, 24068 Black or African American, 268 American Indian, 1714 Asian, 16 Native Hawaiian, and 842 from two or more races.
