Hyde County is one of the 66 county of South Dakota, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The county has a population of 1671 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 1424, It is the fifth smallest in terms of population. It has total area of 866.59 square miles (2244.46 square kilometre), of which, 860.97 square miles (2229.9 square kilometre) of it is land and 5.62 square miles (14.56 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 36th largest by total area among South Dakota's county.

In the county Population was distributed with 25.6% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 23.5% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 22.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 1424, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 88.06% White, 0.14% Black or African American, 10.96% American Indian, 0% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 0.84% from two or more races.
