Huron County is a county located in Michigan, in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 36079 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 32805, It is Michigan's 46th most populous county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2136.47 square miles (5533.43 sq km), of which, 836.52 square miles (2166.58 sq km) of it is land and 1299.95 square miles (3366.86 sq km) of it is water, makes it the eighth largest by total area in Michigan. It is ranks eighth in the size of its inland waterways in Michigan.

As of the census of 2000, there were 36079 residents, 14597 households, and 10141 families in the county. The population density was 43.1 people per square mile (16.64/kmē), it is Michigan's 27th least densely populated county. There were 20430 housing units at an average density of 24.4 per square mile (9.42/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.42 persons, and the average family size was 2.95 persons. Age range in the county was well distributed with 24.2% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 24.8% from 45 to 64, and 19.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.5 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 32805, The racial makeup of the county was 97.88% White, 0.3% Black or African American, 0.37% American Indian, 0.59% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.85% from two or more races.
