It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in Pennsylvania.

The population density was 52.2 people per square mile (20.15/km˛), it is Pennsylvania's 13th least densely populated county. There were 21058 housing units at an average density of 24.1 per square mile (9.31/km˛). The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 2.92. In the Huntingdon County, 21.7% of the population was under the age of 18, 10.1% were 18 to 24, 29.4% were 25 to 44, 24% were 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 109.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 110.2 males.
