According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Huntingdon County is home to 45586 inhabitants. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 889.03 mi˛ (2302.58 sq km), of which, 874.05 square miles (2263.78 sq km) of it is land and 14.98 square miles (38.8 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 18th largest by total area in Pennsylvania. It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in Pennsylvania.

The population density was 52.2 people per square mile (20.15/km˛), it is Pennsylvania's 13th least densely populated county. There were 21058 housing units at an average density of 24.1 per square mile (9.31/km˛). The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 2.92. In the Huntingdon County, 21.7% of the population was under the age of 18, 10.1% were 18 to 24, 29.4% were 25 to 44, 24% were 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 109.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 110.2 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 45543, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 42497 White, 2557 Black or African American, 55 American Indian, 116 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 315 from two or more races.
