Humphreys County is a county located in Tennessee, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. It is home to over 17929 people (2000 census). As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 18149, It is Tennessee's 27th least populous county. The county extends throughout a territory of 556.72 sq mi (1441.9 sq km ), of which, 532.22 square miles (1378.44 sq km) of it is land and 24.5 square miles (63.45 sq km) of it is water, it is the 27th largest by area in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It is ranks tenth in the size of its inland waterways in Tennessee.

As of the census of 2000, there were 17929 people, 7238 households, and 5145 families residing in the county. The population density was 33.7 people per square mile (13.01/kmē), it is the ninth least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Tennessee. There were 8482 housing units at an average density of 15.9 per square mile (6.14/kmē). The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 2.9. In the county Population was distributed with 23.9% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 26.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.1 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 18149, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 95.27% White, 3.12% Black or African American, 0.29% American Indian, 0.4% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.91% from two or more races.
