Humboldt County is a county located in Iowa, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The population of the county was 10381 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 9514, making it the 22nd least populous county in Iowa. The county has a total area of 435.73 miē (1128.54 kmē), of which, 434.41 square miles (1125.12 kmē) of it is land and 1.31 square miles (3.39 kmē) of it is water, making it the 15th smallest by size in Iowa.

As of the census of 2000, there were 10381 people in the county, organized into 4295 households, and 2884 families living in the county. The population density was 23.9 people per square mile (9.23/kmē), giving it the 64th most densely populated county among the Iowa. There were 4645 housing units at an average density of 10.7 per square mile (4.13/kmē). The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.94. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.9% under the age of 18, 7% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 21% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 104.5 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 108.4 females. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 9514, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 98.34% White, 0.61% Black or African American, 0.11% American Indian, 0.36% Asian, 0.09% Native Hawaiian, and 0.49% from two or more races.
