Hughes City is a city located in the St. Francis County, Arkansas, United States. In 2000, the population was 1867. The July 2008 population estimate is 1685, giving it the 141st largest population among Arkansas. The city comprises an area of 2.17 mi˛ (5.62 square kilometre), of which, 2.15 square miles (5.57 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 233rd largest by total area among Arkansas.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1867 people in the city, organized into 682 households, and 494 families living in the city. The population density was 869.8 people per square mile (335.83/km˛), making it the 123rd most densely populated city in Arkansas. There were 762 housing units at an average density of 354.4 per square mile (136.83/km˛). The average household size was 2.74 people, and the average family size was 3.31 people. In the city the population is diverse age-wise, with 33.7% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who were 65 or older.
