Hudson County is a United States county located in the United States of New Jersey. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 608975 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 595419, making it the fifth most populous county in New Jersey. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 62.43 mi˛ (161.69 sq km), of which, 46.69 square miles (120.93 sq km) of it is land and 15.74 square miles (40.77 sq km) of it is water, it is the smallest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks seventh in the size of its inland waterways in New Jersey.

As of the census of 2000, there were 608975 people, 230546 households, and 143532 families living in the county. The population density was 13043.6 people per square mile (5036.16/km˛), making its New Jersey's most densely populated county. There were 240618 housing units at an average density of 5153.8 per square mile (1989.89/km˛). The average household size was 2.6 and the average family size was 3.27. In the Hudson County, 22.6% of the population was under the age of 18, 10.4% were 18 to 24, 35.6% were 25 to 44, 20% were 45 to 64, and 11.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 595419, The racial makeup of the county was 70.73% White, 14.76% Black or African American, 0.69% American Indian, 11.75% Asian, 0.16% Native Hawaiian, and 1.91% from two or more races.
